Abstract

The objective of this is to analyze clinic , epidemiologic and laboratory characteristics of tuberculosis patients at a University Hospital in Paraíba Valley. Analysis comprised one hundred and fifty-six patients' records, from 2000 to 2006, with ages under15 to 65 years old of both sexes. Information was stored in a computer data bank, employing the EpiInfo software. The population under investigation was mostly male, 45 years of age on average, with non-specialized jobs. Pulmonary TB variety represented 78,7% the cases, followed by lymph node tuberculosis 65%. In 80,7% of the cases diagnosis was made through XR; from these, 35,3% had positive bacilloscopy and 8,3% positive culture. The principal co-morbidity was HIV with 64,7% of the patients and 35,3% of the tuberculosis diagnostics discovered at the Public health service. The majority cases were diagnosed through bacilloscopy, culture and XR, accord with the National Standard.
