The abuse of alcohol and other drugs has been touted as an important issue faced by different sectors in the society. The injuries and damage to people health related to consumption of psychoactive substances have been pointing out to both the accidental events and violence situations that are associated to harmful use of alcohol and other drugs in dif ferent social groups. Whereas the relevance of those social issues on the Public Health agenda, this current ar ticle intends to analyse a set of interviews with people involved in to help alcohol and other drugs’ users as well as their families, addressing the issue of compulsory admissions and care network alcohol and other drugs’ users in the São Paulo state. The people of this study are managers / organizers of Health, regional prosecutors and judges. In order to consider the legal practices and Health practices directed to alcohol and other drugs’ users, we have seeked references to violence in the interviewed’s daily work who were invited to sort out these situations. The violence situations that involves alcohol and other drugs’ users and their families require professionals and public policy a watchful eye, because they represent a complex social problem that demands structured interventions by the Government, indicating the need for dialogue and partnership between these different fields.
