ABSTRACT This article aims at approaching the discussion upon the body within social sciences. The debates on body have become increasingly intense and complex. The approaches really shows it is about the central theme for understanding the interactive processes of the subjects in society, as well as the phenomena more directly linked to the health area. When we mention body, a myriad of theoretical-conceptual possibilities unfolds right in front of us. This multiple discussion, which is performed continuously, therefore, this escaping "object-subject" compels us to make a choice. Within this context, we chose only to draw the contours of the current debates on the theme, as well as to point, always digested form, a draft of its effects on the social sciences. The general idea is that those discussions simultaneously indicated the existence of "great divisors" and points at its overcoming.
